What we can learn from the Kardashians on Instagram
Apart from getting a selfie right, there are a some valuable lessons that we can learn from the way the Kardashian family use Instagram to further their brand franchise. According to a new Instagram Influencer Report by Simply Measured that looks at the engagement activity of the 77 most followed people on Instagram, the sisters – Kim Kardashian (at #1), followed by Kylie Jenner, Khloe Kardashian, Kendall Jenner and Kourtney Kardashian ranked among the top 20 influencers on the photo-sharing platform. Mum Kris Jenner also made it to the list though coming in later at #37. ‘
So what make’s this family’s photos stand out from the 70 million others posted each day? The report from Simply Measured lists the following tactics that work for them which (where applicable) can serve as a good benchmark for people and brands to learn a thing or two from:
1. Showing Skin
‘Kim Kardashian West has not been shy about nudity on Instagram whether it’s scantily clad pregnancy selfies or revealing cleavage, all in the name of celebrating the female form and her baby-on-board.’
2. Family First ‘All members of the Kardashian clan understand that, for them, family is more than blood–it’s brand. By squadding up and taking lots of selfies together, they generate buzz for all their business enterprises.’

3. Cross-Promote
‘Kylie and Khloe often post playful DubSmash videos on Instagram. Kylie has been known to Instagram a Snapchat video (she also has a lively presence on that network). Whether Kylie or Khloe has an official business relationship with either DubSmash or Snapchat is unknown, but the tactic works.’
4. Be ‘Real’ ‘What the reality stars on this list have in common is how well they broadcast an image of being “real” to their Instagram followers, making people feel like they’re a part of the inner circle. Whether gym shots or pre-work selfies, it’s obviously working.’

Hey we know ‘showing skin’ or huddling the senior management together for a selfie is not the conventional or preferred route for most brands. But what we can take away from this is that Instagram is a great way to show and tell. Backstage pictures with the stars, behind-the-scenes of a photo shoot, a selfie to promote an upcoming interview are all fun and interesting ways to make the most of campaigns, events and opportunities.
