• Alex Salmond will be writing a column for both the Courier and The Press and Journal newspapers

• Owen Bennett has confirmed via Twitter that he is to join the Mirror Online as online political reporter

• The Daily Mail has appointed Alex Kay-Jelski as sports editor. He replaces Les Snowdon, who has left his role after five and a half years to become editor of The Times in Scotland

• Andrea Mann has announced via Twitter that she has left her role as comedy editor of the Huffington Post UK to go freelance

• Total Politics has moved to an online-only presence from this year as part of its wider digital strategy

• After the closure of The Wokingham Times in December, the Wokingham Borough is planning to launch a new printed newspaper this year. The new newspaper has a working title of the Wokingham Independent

• Martin Smith has left his role as features editor at The Star

• Ian Mean will be retiring as editor of the Western Daily Press in February

• THE VOICE and Weekly Gleaner newspapers have moved to new offices in south London. Both titles are now situated at the Elephant & Castle Shopping Centre, ending an eight-year stay in east London’s Docklands

• Mike Gilson has been appointed group editor of Newsquest Sussex Ltd, the publisher of The Argus. Mike joins from the Belfast Telegraph where he was previously editor

• Ferdinando Giugliano has been appointed as economics correspondent at the Financial Times. He was previously the global economy news editor

• Rachel Barnes has been confirmed as editor of Marketing magazine. She was previously acting editor

• Charlotte Richards has been promoted to deputy editor at Money Management. She was previously staff writer at the title

• HoldtheFrontPage has moved offices from Meadow Road industrial estate in Derby to a new office in the city centre. The new address is Laurie House, Colyear St, Derby DE1 1ES. The new phone numbers are 01332 895972 for editorial and 01332 895994 for sales

• Kate Beioley has been appointed personal finance reporter at Investors Chronicle. She joins from The Lawyer where she was previously a reporter

• The Motorship has appointed Gavin Lipsith as editor

• Academies Week has been renamed Schools Week

• The TRADE has appointed Joe McGrath as editor. He joins from Financial News where he was the asset management editor

• Nathalie Riddle has been appointed acting fashion director at the London Evening Standard magazine, covering Nicky Yates’ maternity leave

• Marie-Claire Chappet has been appointed editorial assistant at the Sunday Times Style

• Rory White has announced via Twitter that he is the new cars editor at What Car? and Autocar

• Paul Bond has joined AutoTrader as senior road tester. He was previously new cars editor at What Car?

• Alison Lovett has been appointed style editor and Ellen Blake has been appointed features assistant at GoodHomes magazine

• Emma Norman has been appointed editor at Verge magazine

• Dominic Rowntree has been appointed news and online editor at Square Meal Lifestyle

• Stephanie Lowe has been appointed assistant editor, lifestyle, at Essentials and Good to Know magazines

• Betty Wood has left her role of online editor at Port magazine

• Time Inc. UK launches a new monthly magazine, Fit & Well, from the team behind Woman and Woman’s Own
