News & current affairs
- Johnston Press has named the new editorial line-up for the i paper. Oly Duff will remain as editor and Andy Webster as deputy editor. New heads of department have been appointed across news, business, production, pictures, the iWeekend package, features and arts. Fran Yeoman, Siobhan Norton and Hanna Tavner will be assistant editor (news), assistant editor (production) and assistant editor (iWeekend) respectively. Rebecca Armstrong is appointed features editor with Sophie Batterbury picture editor. Elizabeth Anderson joins as business editor from The Daily Telegraph’s business team, while Alice Jones is promoted to arts editor.
The Independent on Sunday’s arts editor Hugh Montgomery is appointed deputy arts editor. Alasdair McKay will be sports editor and Memphis Barker joins from Independent Voices as comment editor. The former Telegraph and Mail designer Tim Alden becomes art director, and Henrik Pettersson graphics editor. Michael Day, Italy correspondent at i and The Independent, returns to London to become i foreign editor. The chief reporter will be Cahal Milmo, and chief sports correspondent Kevin Garside, formerly of the Telegraph. Meanwhile Nigel Morris, formerly deputy political editor and home affairs correspondent, becomes political editor.
Johnston Press announced its acquisition of i in February 2016 and the deal will be complete on 10th April with the first standalone issue under Johnston Press ownership to be published on Monday 11th April.
- Herald Newspapers PLC have announced that the Ceredigion Herald is set to launch tomorrow. The paper will be priced at 70p and will feature 3 to 4 pages in Welsh
- Mirror Media Ireland is to expand its digital portfolio with the launch of Dublin Live. The new website will feature live breaking news, local sport, entertainment, events, local interest and What’s On listings from around Dublin. The site will officially launch in mid-April and will be edited by Alana Fearon
- The Times and The Sunday Times have announced the launch of a new combined website and two upgraded smartphone apps that will follow an edition-based publishing model for the first time. One core edition will be produced each day, on all platforms, with updates to the edition published at 9am, noon and 5pm on the website and smartphone apps. On weekends the edition updates will be at noon and 6pm
- Sophie Warner has been appointed editorial/online assistant at the London Evening Standard’s Homes & Property section
- Lauren O’Callaghan has been appointed lifestyle reporter at the EXPRESS website
- Chris Elliott has left his role as reader’s editor at the Guardian to go freelance
- Tom Ambrose has left his role as reporter at the Richmond & Twickenham Times
Fashion, lifestyle and entertainment
- Laurence Mozafari has been appointed associate editor at Digital Spy. He was previously digital editor at Heat magazine. Lexi Watson has also recently joined as social media editor
- Jack White has been appointed writer at the HELLO! website. He was previously news and features writer at Closer Online. Emmy Griffiths has also recently joined as online writer having previously been entertainment editor at sofeminine
- Charlie Lyon has been appointed editor at Crumbs Cotswolds. She was previously the editor at Bristol Property Live
- Emmeline Saunders has been appointed acting deputy editor at heatworld. She was previously brand writer at the title
- Anna Verdon has been appointed features writer across Woman and Woman’s Own. She was previously a news reporter and feature writer at Ferrari Press Agency
- Natasha Lunn has been promoted to features editor at Red magazine having previously been deputy features editor. Rebecca Hull has also been promoted to junior beauty writer from her previous role as beauty assistant
- Ailsa Miller has been promoted to shopping editor at Tatler from her previous role as fashion associate
- Chloe Morgan has been promoted to senior features writer at that’s life!
Business and finance
- Zoe Wood has returned from maternity leave to continue her role as the Guardian and Observer’s retail correspondent. She will be sharing her role with Sarah Butler and working Tuesday, Thursday and Friday
- Simon Neville has been appointed business editor at BuzzFeed UK. He was previously retail correspondent at the Independent and London Evening Standard
- Callum Brodie has been appointed senior reporter at MoneySavingExpert.com. He was previously news editor at Post magazine
- David Brooke has been appointed reporter at PRIVATE DEBT INVESTOR
Health, science and technology
- Julie Bissett has been appointed editor at the Dental Nursing journal
