News & current affairs
- There will be a number of changes at ITV News in the New Year. Mary Nightingale will present the ITV Evening News alone for four days a week next year. Also Chris Ship will become royal editor in March, moving from his present role as deputy political editor and Nina Nannar will become arts editor moving from her role as news correspondent
- The Guardian have appointed Daniel Boffey as Brussels bureau chief. He is currently policy editor at the Observer and starts his new role in the New Year. Also at the paper Adam Vaughan has been appointed energy correspondent and starts his new role next year. He currently edits the Guardian’s environment site
- Tom Parry has been promoted to special correspondent at the Daily Mirror from his previous role as senior feature writer
- Ed Malyon is set to join the Independent in the New Year as sports editor. He left his previous role at the Daily Mirror on 8 December
- Richard Vaughan has been appointed education correspondent at the i Paper. He joins from the Times Educational Supplement
- Camilla Turner has been appointed education editor at the Daily Telegraph. She was previously investigations reporter at the title
- Helen Coffey has been appointed digital travel reporter at Daily Express Online
- Lucy Pearce has been appointed new editor at the Argus. She replaces Mike Gilson who left last week
- Vincent McAviney has been appointed senior reporter at LBC. He was previously a producer at ITV News
- Joseph Flaig has left his role as senior reporter at the Epping Forest Guardian
- The South Yorkshire Times will publish its final print edition on 15 December and become an online only title
Fashion, lifestyle and entertainment
- It has been announced that Attitude and Winq magazine editorial teams are to merge. Matthew Cain becomes editor in chief across both titles. Cliff Joannou, after a six-month stint as acting editor, is confirmed in post as editor of Attitude, while former editorial director Matthew Todd assumes the title of editor-at-large. Winq’s former features editor, Adam Duxbury, becomes deputy editor
- Mango Saul has been appointed acting digital director at Asda Good Living
- Naomi Greenaway has been appointed acting associate editor at Stella magazine. She was previously online Femail writer at MailOnline
- Rebecca Younger has been appointed editor at Surrey Life with effect from 19 December. She replaces Caroline Harrap who is going freelance next week
- Sophie Tweedale has been appointed senior editor at Smallish
- There have been a couple of promotions at Curva. Maya Marshall has been promoted to beauty director from her previous role as beauty editor. While Jaffrina Jahan is now beauty editor having formerly been a beauty writer
Business and finance
- Newsquest has announced the acquisition of the Forestry Journal and essentialARB publications. Forestry Journal and essentialARB will form part of Newsquest’s Scottish magazine portfolio
- Reuters have announced the appointment of Simon Robinson as regional editor for EMEA. He starts his role in the New Year. Robinson is currently the deputy global enterprise editor at the news service
- Sian Barton has been appointed deputy editor at Insurance Age. She was previously commissioning editor at the title. Also Ida Axling has now been promoted to senior reporter from her previous role as reporter
- James Richardson has been appointed features editor at Business Car
Health, science and technology
- Chris Barraclough has been appointed editor in chief at Recombu replacing former editor in chief Rory Reid. Rory will continue to contribute to Recombu’s tech coverage
- Sam Pudwell has been appointed reporter at Silicon UK
