The Social Grand National
With an estimated audience of between 500 and 600 million people, the Grand National is surely one of the biggest sporting events of the year. Often even attracting non-betting people to have a flutter, the racing horses’ odds are closely watched and tips are sought by many.
The current favourites with the best odds (which are likely to change as the race draws nearer) are as follows:
-
On His Own – 8/1
-
Seabass – 10/1
-
Colbert Station – 11/1
-
Cappa Bleu – 12/1
-
Chicago Grey – 14/1
-
Imperial Commander – 16/1
-
Teaforthree – 16/1
-
Balthazar King – 20/1
-
BallaBriggs – 20/1
-
Join Together – 20/1
With the Grand National such an unpredictable race, we decided to use Cision Social Media to see which the people’s favourites were. The following results paint a different picture to the bookies’ odds, and we’re dubbing it the Social Grand National (Click to Enlarge).
Should social media’s favourite Seabass win, it will herald the first female jockey victory in the history of the National – a possible explanation for all the social media mentions. Should Chicago Grey seal the win, it will be only the fourth grey to win ever (though the last grey won in 2012).
Rare Bob has done very well to make it so high with current odds of 25/1.
With Cision’s office sweepstake already taken place, there is little hope, it seems, for my horse Weird Al. But it’s the Grand National – anything could happen.
