TAKE 5 with Gemma Fraser
Here is a quick 5 minute interview with top mummy blogger Gemma Fraser who speaks to us about why it’s important for her to write in her own voice and where she draws her inspiration from.
Why did you decide to start blogging on top of your freelance work?
I spend my working life writing in a news or features style, depending on the publication I’m writing for. Blogging gives me the opportunity to write in my own “voice” and I find it a therapeutic outlet.
Why motherhood?
Being a mum is what I do more – and hopefully better – than anything else, so writing about it seemed quite natural to me. From years of posting about my daughter’s exploits on Facebook, I came to realise that people quite like reading about the reality of motherhood and about the funny stories that come hand in hand with having a child.
Who or what inspires you?
I wouldn’t say I was inspired by anyone in particular. I get inspired by music or by taking a walk along the beach and just listening to the waves. I’m also particularly inspired after a glass of sauvignon blanc or two…
What is your pitch to PRs? How would you prefer to be contacted by them?
It’s pretty simple really: a realistic, honest and personal take on life bringing up a child on your own while trying to sell stories in order to keep her in overpriced blueberries and avocados.
Where would you like to see your blog in one year from now?
I would just like to see people continue to read it and enjoy it. There have been a few occasions recently where I’ve met readers who have been able to empathise with certain scenarios, or who have just thought something was really funny, and that’s really what I set out to achieve.
