Speedy Spotlight: Mellow Mummy
Mellow Mummy is featured in this week’s Media Updates. Author Emma Button talked to Cision about Google+, guest posts from brands and the clarity of PR.
Why should people read Mellow Mummy?
For a no-nonsense, non-mumsie record of life as a UK working mum of two. Most people come to my blog to read the reviews I write of mother and baby products, and the occasional pampering health and beauty product for mum.
In my blogosphere everyone is talking about Google+ because: it is where the conversation is right now. It’s easy to use and easy to talk to others.
What’s your favourite blog and why? I enjoy reading Me, The Man & The Baby because Emma’s two boys are almost exactly the same age as my two girls and it is nice to know that there is someone out there going through the same thing as you, at the same time.
How often do you aim to post? I like to post at least three times during the working week and I post two reviews every Sunday.
How do you feel about guest posts? Guest posts from other bloggers do great things for my blog and theirs. I enjoy posting guest posts from brands if they are really closely tied to the content of my blog and if they are for brands and services that I know and love.
How does a good PR work with you? A good PR sets clear expectations on what they would like from you and when they would like it, right from day one of a campaign. The PRs I most enjoy working with know who I am and what I do outside of my blog; they understand that I blog for a hobby, not as a job. The campaigns I most enjoy are either ones which really draw on my ‘expertise’ as a mum, or which encourage creativity rather than just posting about a topic or event. Recipes, craft challenges and interactive content all work well.
What do PRs do that’s bad? I don’t like to simply receive an anonymous press release. I know there are blogs out there where ‘news’ is published but most personal blogs need some real-life context. Personally, I prefer it if what the PR expects in response is made REALLY clear on the first contact. Have they contacted bloggers because they want you to perform a review? Because they would like you to start a conversation about a brand? Or because they want you to write about their ‘news’?
