Speedy Spotlight: Kate Rooney
An interview with Kate Rooney, author of the beauty, health and style blog, The Glow Edit. Kate brings her knowledge of the beauty industry from working with leading fashion titles into her blog . She spoke to us about how she works with PRs, fashion week 2013 and what we can expect to read on her site in the months ahead.
Why should people read your blog? What makes it different?
I aim for my blog to represent the upper tier of the beauty blogging community. A fun, relatable ‘girl next door’ kind of feel with an editorial edge. Having worked within the beauty teams at Vogue, ELLE, Stylist and Grazia I not only have a passion for what I cover, but I actually possess the knowledge. I’m passionate out healthy living from being brought up in a household where my mother practices as a dietician. I provide no nonsense (fad-free) information to ensure that my reader is never left feeling undermined or like they aren’t good enough.

How do you measure the success of your site?
I measure the success of my website based on feedback, and the overall growth of my readership on The Glow Edit and all linked up social media websites. My Instagram following has increased by over 250% within 6 months so I feel that my success will only grow further.
What’s your favourite blog and why?
I love The Londoner and Joy Felicity Jane as they really convey emotion through their writing.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start a blog?
Blog about what you love, and be yourself. If you really love blogging, your following won’t mean much to you. Always fill your blog with content you love. Once you can monetise it you may need to create content aimed more at pleasing your readers, but to start with, do what you love.
How do you work with marketers and PRs?
I receive emails, press releases and calls in regards to potential features for my blog and I respond accordingly.

Who do you work with in brand marketing? What can they do better in working with you?
I usually work with PRs. So far, nothing! I understand how it is working from the other side. Everyone can be under pressure.
What was your blogging highlight of 2013?
Fashion week!
What will be big in your blogosphere in the coming months?
Interviews with big names within the industry.
