Speedy Spotlight: Eilidh’s Maisy Meow
An interview with Eilidh, author of the fashion and beauty blog Maisy Meow. Eilidh spoke to us about keeping her blog shopper-friendly, working with PRs and creating summer lookbooks on YouTube in the months ahead.
Why should people read your blog?
My blog is a mixed bag of fashion, beauty with a bit of lifestyle. It’s easy to read and there’s something in it for everyone – as long as they like shopping!
What makes your blog different?
Fashion blogging is so popular these days, but everyone has their own individual style and that’s what makes it unique.
What’s your favourite blog and why?
It’s so hard to pick as I follow so many! I’d probably say llymlrs.com because her massive following means she has a huge range of content and an enviable wardrobe.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start a blog?
Don’t try too hard – just write whatever you feel like, and you’ll find what you prefer and what suits you best. I’d also recommend using social media early on to promote your blog – it’s the most valuable tool.
How does a good PR work with you?
A good PR knows your blog well and what your audience would like to read. It’s always nice to have a personalised email and to know that they’ve contacted you individually.
What do PRs do that’s bad?
I’ve had a few emails suggesting collaborations on topics totally unrelated to anything on my blog. It’s basically junk mail – a standard email that has been sent to 100 bloggers in the hope that it’ll suit one. I don’t like that.
What was your blogging highlight of 2013?
2013 was my first proper year of blogging, so there were loads of highlights! My favourite was probably going to my first event, and meeting lots of lovely bloggers for the first time. It was nice to put faces to Twitter names and get to know the people that I’d been speaking to for so long!
What will be big in your blogosphere in 2014?
I’m focusing more on fashion these days, so I hope to do more outfit posts and I might even start up a Youtube channel so I can make some summer lookbooks. It’s all so exciting!
