Speedy Spotlight: Boast it, a lifestyle and beauty blog
An interview with Sarah Boast, author of the lifestyle and beauty blog, Boast It. Sarah spoke to us about being a journalism student and using her writing as a catalyst for change, working with PRs and brands as well as addressing real issues through her blog this year.
Why should people read your blog? What makes it different? My blog is not your generic beauty or fashion blog. It covers all areas of lifestyle – taking real news events and discussing them in detail. It’s different as I’m a journalism student who wants to hold power to account and see changes occur.
How do you measure the success of your website? I measure the success of my website by the views it gets and the feedback I receive whether this be a retweet on twitter or a Facebook comment.
What’s your favourite blog and why? I am a big fan of Zoella as her blog is inspirational and stands out from normality.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start a blog? I would tell them to stick at it and persevere. If, like me, you enjoy writing then this won’t be difficult and your blog will soon thrive.
How do you work with marketers and PRs? I work alongside PRs in order to be sent samples to review or events to attend. I love hearing about the latest beauty, hair or fashion trends and trialling them on behalf of companies before sharing the best with my readers.
Who do you work with in brand marketing? PRs? SEOs? Anyone else? I work with various people who are PR representatives for individual companies. I used to work in PR myself so have quite a good relationship with various people.
What can marketers do better in working with you? I suppose the only thing that could be improved is the number of emails I receive regarding marketing. As I said I love to hear about the latest products so please, get in touch!
What will be big in your blogosphere in 2014? As a journalism student I am hoping to move more into news-related articles and interviews. I want to step away from that generic lifestyle blogger into more or a unique website that represents young people and the issues we face.
