So who’s excited about this Royal Wedding thing..?
Other than Slim-Fast, America, if Twitter is to be believed.
Unsurprising? Maybe. I find it more surprising that there is such a strong UK contingent – despite the UK being home to the second largest Twitter population, it’s still a fraction of the size of the US user-base. While obviously the event is – quintessentially – British, I haven’t had the sense that the populace are breaking out the bunting en masse.
Dig into these tweets and it gets stranger (to me), as the most visible cynics also seem to come from across the pond. It’s in the US that hashtags such as #whatsthepoint, #pleaseshutup and #onlywhitepeoplecareabout account for substantial volumes of wedding-related tweets; key terms emerging from UK coverage are uniformly optimistic, or at worst neutral.
Is the UK really united behind monarchy? Are we saving our much-vaunted national sense of cynicism for the big day? Or are we so easily bribed with an extra day off?
I think all world gone crazy about this weddings :)
