Political Updates 6th March 2017

House of Commons
- Father of the House Gerald Kaufman, MP for Manchester Gorton passed away. Former chancellor Ken Clarke is now the new Father of the House. There has been speculation that the by-election to replace Kaufman could be held on 4 May 2017, to coincide with nationwide local elections.
- On Wednesday, Chancellor of the Exchequer, Philip Hammond will deliver the 2017 Spring Budget.
- National Security Advisor Sir Mark Lyall Grant is to be succeeded by Home Office Permanent Secretary Mark Sedwill.
House of Lords
- Lord McCluskey has retired.
Scottish Parliament
Northern Ireland Assembly
- Northern Ireland had their assembly election on Thursday 2nd March.
- The number of seats have been reduced from 108 to 90

Local Government
- Mark Rogers is leaving his position as Chief Executive of Birmingham City Council.
- Keith Reynolds has announced that he is standing down as Leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council in May.
European Parliament
This week the Members of the European Parliament will be based in Brussels for Committee and Group meetings.
