Political Updates 19th August 2019
This week’s Political Updates covers moves and changes at all levels of government.
UK Government
Sarah Jenkins has been appointed as a Trustee at the Historic Royal Palaces. She will hold this role for 3 years, beginning on 2 September 2019.
Tim Davie was re-appointed as a Trustee of the Tate for four years, he will begin this position on 5 October 2019.
Farooq Chaudhry has been appointed as Artist Trustee of the Tate. He will hold this role for a period of 4 years, beginning on 29 July 2019.
Mark Mohammed, Graham R Middleton and Jacqueline Fordyce have all been appointed as Standing Junior Counsel to the Advocate General for Scotland and will began this role on 12 August 2019.
Edward Lister has resigned as Chair of Homes of England.
Lynn Lawrence and Martin Post have both been appointed as members of the School Teachers’ Review Body in the Department for Education.
Alan Andranik Gogbashian was appointed as Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Republic of Armenia in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, succeeding Judith Farnworth.
Mike Seddon was appointed as Chief Executive of Forestry England.
Welsh Government
Sir David Henshaw has been announced as the preferred candidate to become the Chair of Natural Resources Wales (NRW).
Political Parties
Liberal Democrats
Dr Sarah Wollaston has joined the Liberal Democrats. She was initially elected as a Conservative MP but was sitting as an independent MP.
Labour Party
Albert Owen MP has announced that he will step-down at the next general election for “personal reasons”. He will remain in his current position as Member of Parliament for Ynys Môn until the next scheduled general election in 2022 but has said that he will stand down if there is a snap election before then.
