Day 5: #JingleBlogs with Jim Connolly
Welcome to CisionUK’s #JingleBlogs Advent Calendar 2014!
Today’s advent blogger is Jim Connolly, author of the UK’s top digital marketing blog: Jim’s Marketing Blog
We asked Jim four very special and festive questions:
Where are you spending Christmas this year?
Christmas this year will be spent with my wife and son, at home in a small rural village in South Yorkshire. We relocated here from London and now I work with clients worldwide, thanks to the wonders of today’s communications technology.
What was the worst Christmas present you have ever received?
I appreciate the sentiment behind every gift, but maybe the weirdest was sent to me by a small marketing company. It was a coffee mug, which contained no message – just a huge, low quality photo of their managing director! Not sure why he thought people would find that attractive.
Do you take Christmas off or do you carry on blogging?
My rule of blogging is something I adhere to all year round, including Christmas. It’s simply this: If I have something useful to share, I publish it. If that happens over the Christmas period, I’ll publish it. Because I always write early in the morning, before the rest of the family are awake, blogging never eats into family time. This gives me the freedom to write whenever I want to.
What is your New Year’s Resolution?
I make resolutions all year round, not just on the 1st January. However, what I always do on New Year’s day, is take some extra time to review the previous year. I reflect at the end of every working week and every month, writing notes on what I’ve learned and areas where I need to invest more / less time. On 1st January, I look at the notes and seek out opportunities to improve in the year ahead. It’s a motivating experience and helps me start every New Year with clarity.
#JingleBlogs will continue over the weekend. Join us as we count down to Christmas with some of the UK’s leading bloggers!
