Blogger spotlight with Vicky Jones, author of the fashion, lifestyle and beauty blog, Vix Meldrew. In this interview Vicky talks to us about what makes her blog different, her ‘spirit animal’ and the five best practices every PR should follow for better blogger outreach.

Why should people read your blog? What makes it different? You should read my blog because I aim to interject lots of humour with opinion posts and reviews. My blog is different because often, I will write ’10 things’ posts that are about issues that we can all relate to.

How do you measure the success of your website? The success of my blog comes from how much feedback and comments I get. I love interacting with my readers.

What’s your favourite blog and why? My favourite blog is www.hannahgale.co.uk – she’s my spirit animal.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to start a blog? My advice would be to just go for and put everything you have in to it. Don’t be disheartened if your follower count doesn’t sky rocket immediately. It all takes time.

How do you work with marketers and PRs? I like to be approached by PRs and brands who have read my blog and can see my passion for beauty, fashion, travel etc will come across if I was to promote their products.

What are the five best practices PRs must follow when working with bloggers?

I would say:

1. Read the blog you want to reach out to. 2. Send a fairly personalised email so the blogger feels a bit special! 3. Wait patiently for a reply and do not nag – we’re all busy people! 4. Only offer out products and experiences that are related to the blog. I don’t want to be contacted by someone wanting to push their latest nose trimmer, ta muchly. And 5. Set out in the initial email EXACTLY what you want and what you can offer.

What has been your blogging highlight? My blogging highlight was receiving tons of comments on a post about depression. The post meant a lot to me and it was great to get such good feedback from girls and guys all over the world.

What will be big in your blogosphere?  YouTube for fashion hauls and fitness tips!
