Blogger Spotlight: Karen Beddow, Mini Travellers
Having three young children doesn’t have to stifle your love of travel. It means you have to be more prepared and requires a whole new checklist of essential items. Founded by Karen Beddow in 2014, Mini Travellers supplies parents with ideas for holidays and day trips. Not content with Mini Travellers, Karen has recently launched a new blog ‘Fuelled by Latte’, an extension of her original blog, focused on family, travel, food, lifestyle and fashion. In this spotlight top-ranking family travel blogger Karen talks to us about why people should read Mini Travellers, how she likes to work with PRs and what her blogging highlight has been.
Why should people read your blog? To find out what it is really like day tripping and holidaying with three little girls. Also to read what other people think of different places.
How do you measure the success of your website? If a particular post is shared a lot and commented on Facebook I know I have been successful that day. It’s also lovely to be approached to review exciting destinations.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start a blog? It isn’t all free things and exciting opportunities, to get those you have to put a lot of time in, so you have to love what you are writing about and love writing.
How do you work with marketers and PRs? Either on sponsored posts or through reviewing products, days out or holidays.
How do you use social media to promote and share content? What are the challenges? I use SocialOomph to schedule most of my social media content. My biggest challenge is Pinterest, I really need to get better at scheduling content for this and using it correctly.
What can PRs do in working better with you? For me that would be to reply promptly and say this opportunity is not progressing. It can be frustrating leaving days free and then being told at the last minute it isn’t happening.
What has been your blogging highlight? Either skiing with Mark Warner or my latest villa holiday with Simpson Travel, both amazing family holidays.
What will be big in your blogosphere in the coming months? Over the summer it will be holidays, day trips and festivals well into late September.
