An interview with Heather Nixon, author of the beauty, lifestyle and fashion blog, Of Beauty and Nothingness. Heather spoke to us about the clean and simple design of her blog that sets it apart, working with brand marketers and the five best practices every PR should follow for better blogger outreach.

Why should people read your blog? What makes it different? My blog is a mixture of beauty, fashion and lifestyle posts as well as giveaways and tag posts! I love my blog design, I think it is unique but clean and simple. I feel as though my writing and photography style is quite unique, qualities that my readers and subscribers seem to love.

How do you measure the success of your website? I measure the success of my blog by the comments left by readers and subscribers – kind, supportive comments mean the world to me!

What’s your favourite blog and why? My current favourite blog is What Olivia Did, she is gorgeous and I love her style!

 What advice would you give to someone who wants to start a blog? If you put the time and effort into your blog, making it your own and being honest then it will grow but don’t rush it!

How do you work with marketers and PRs? Marketers and PRs usually contact me with opportunities and event invites although I do approach brands/PRs myself.

Who do you work with in brand marketing? PRs? SEOs? PRs and occasionally SEOs.

 Can you list five best practices for blogger outreach? 

1. Outline what you are proposing in an introduction email

2. Keep it simple, don’t spam

3. Take the time to find out the bloggers name and location at least!

4. When emailing a blogger, make it specific to their blog rather than generic emails sent to numerous bloggers

5. Don’t expect something for nothing, it is rude as it is asking for free advertising

 What has been your blogging highlight? My blogging highlight has been reaching new milestones on Twitter and being invited to special blogger events such as the St Legers Ladies Day.

What will be big in your blogosphere in the coming months? Working with more exciting lifestyle and beauty brands!
