Blogger Spotlight: Emma Heapy, Glossy Boutique
An interview with Emma Heapy, author of the beauty, fashion and lifestyle blog, Glossy Boutique. Emma spoke to us about using social media to connect with PRs, the five best PR practices for better blogger outreach, adding more fashion content to the site and working on her photography skills.
Why should people read your blog? What makes it different? I’m always honest in my reviews which I think is a very important quality in a blogger. I write about what I love and hope others love my interests too. My blog is all about beauty with a little fashion and lifestyle thrown in!
How do you measure the success of your website? I measure the success with the number of interactions with readers, other bloggers and companies. Whether this be through email or social media, I’m always thrilled when I know someone has read my blog. It’s always lovely to receive a nice comment on a post! As long as I’m still enjoying blogging I see that as a success and so I’ll continue until that day (if it ever does) arrives that I no longer enjoy blogging.
What’s your favourite blog and why? Wow this is tough as there are so many amazing blogs out there. I love whatoliviadid.com for fashion,theblackpearlblog.com for beauty and also missmakeupmagpie.com. They are all unique and I love all three for different reasons!
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start a blog? I’d say if you’re going to give blogging a try be prepared to put some time in. Also don’t compare yourself to other bloggers who have been doing it for years as I sometimes do this and get disheartened. You can only do the best that you can do!
How do you work with marketers and PRs? I respond to emails even if their request isn’t right for my blog. I think it’s rude to not reply! I talk to PRs through social media which is always good. I’d like to think I’m easy to work with and can usually house most requests which may be sponsored posts, affiliates, advertising or product reviews.
Who do you work with in brand marketing? PRs? SEOs? I work with PRs and direct with brands at the moment.
Can you list five best practices for blogger outreach?
1. Always try to personalise an email when approaching a blogger
2. Unfortunately most bloggers won’t work for nothing! It has to be beneficial to us both
3. Be sure to promote the bloggers work in order to gain exposure for the blogger and your brand
4. Be sure to tell the blogger when you’d like the post/product review to be live
5. Don’t forget about pleasant bloggers you’ve worked with in the past for future opportunities
What has been your blogging highlight? My blogging highlight actually came within months of starting my blog. I was invited to a Next event in London and some of my favourite bloggers were there. It was so surreal! I felt so important travelling down to London and turning up at a glam event. I could definitely get used to that!
What will be big in your blogosphere in the coming months? I’m wanting to feature more fashion on my blog in the coming months! I’m also trying to improve my photography day by day so hopefully you’ll see that on my blog.
