Blogger Spotlight: Carole King, Dear Designer’s Blog
Interior designer Carole King launched the Dear Designer’s Blog in 2009 to create her “own little library of loveliness” by collecting and sharing any design content that inspired her. Highlighting new collections and design props inspired from restaurants and hotels, Dear Designer’s Blog helps readers bring their homes to life and inject timeless style. Recently featured on our interior design blogs ranking, Carole chats to us about why it takes time to build up enough content for search engines and readers to find you, creating blog posts that feel authentic, and how she likes to work with PRs.
Why should people read your blog? What makes it different? I guess you could say that my blog is a reflection of my own personal style. I hope that it’s inspirational. I try to only use high-quality images and I think it’s the images that keep my readers coming back.
How do you measure the success of your website? It’s success to me means that I only have to work with companies with clients that reflect my own style and have a similar aesthetic to me. Having said that, it’s lovely to be recognized at events. That does give me a real buzz.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start a blog? Be prepared to put in the hours. It takes

How do you work with marketers and PRs?
It’s always nice to be asked to do things in my own way without too many restrictions or suggestions for key words. The resulting blog post is usually more authentic that way.
How do you use social media to promote and share content? What are the challenges? I share all of my content on all of my channels. The challenge is not being too repetitive in the message and I always use different images for each channel.
What can PRs do in working better with you? I prefer to work with PRs who understand that bloggers know their own readers best.
What has been your blogging highlight? Not so much a highlight, but the best thing about blogging for me is that I can spend my days doing what I love.
What will be big in your blogosphere in the coming months? That’s another advantage of working on a blog. You never know exactly what is round the corner or what opportunities will present themselves.
