Apple is still Britain’s coolest brand; Twitter loses spot to rival Instagram
Apple has retained its title as Britain’s coolest brand for three years in a row while Twitter has lost some of its coolness quotient to rival photo sharing app Instagram, finds the 2014/15 CoolBrands survey.
The survey, which annually lists the Top 20 coolest brands in Britain, found Apple and Aston Martin holding on to the top slots from last year followed by Nike, Chanel and Glastonbury among the Top 5. However, brands such as Twitter, Adidas, Prada and BBC’s iPlayer dropped out of the ranking this time around.
Apart from Instagram, Netflix, home to award-winning cult series Breaking Bad, also made its debut on the list at tenth place.
Meanwhile, the list saw Liberty and Selfridges bounce back into the Top 20 after a one-year absence, as did American technology brand Bose. Stella McCartney also re-entered the Top 20 alongside Dom Pérignon, which regained a Top 20 position after a three-year absence.
Stephen Cheliotis, chairman of the CoolBrands Council, said: ‘It was refreshing to see unique and original brands such as Instagram and Netflix join the Top 20. Both have had an impact on the market, shaking up the status quo and forcing rivals to up the ante. Apple, however, continues to dominate the listing and remains untouchable for now.’
The results follow an independent poll of 2,000 British consumers and a panel of 37 key influencers – including musicians Ella Eyre, Labrinth, Laura Mvula and Reverend and The Makers, Digital Entrepreneur & Founder of SB.TV, Jamal Edwards and models, Jodie Kidd and Sophie Dahl.
