Blogger Spotlight: girlycopyright
An interview with Jessica Jade, author of beauty, hair and lifestyle blog, girlycopyright. Jessica spoke to us about keeping her blog ‘honest, humorous and diverse,’ best practices marketers need to keep in mind when working with her and fellow bloggers and partnering with top brands including the House of Fraser.
Why should people read your blog? What makes it different?
I like to think my blog is a refreshing read. Honest, humorous and diverse! I don’t follow a particular category, but I like to write about all things hair, beauty, lifestyle and fashion. A bit of everything really, whatever pops into my head!
How do you measure the success of your website?
You can easily say numbers for this one. For me, it is successful when anyone takes the time to read my blog. Especially when readers take the time to comment and interact with me.
What’s your favourite blog and why?
My favourite blog is Jasmine Blu! Mainly because she as a person interests me, so whatever she writes about, I’ll be interested.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start a blog?
Have patience and be prepared for a lot of hard work. It took me ages to come up with just the initial design, getting my website how I wanted (with some help from my sister – thanks by-the-way) before even getting to write anything. Definitely, do not push your blog until you have quite a lot of content on your site. Also as tempting as it may be, do not copy other bloggers directly. Remember there is being inspired by others and there is directly copying and pasting from others. There is nothing worst than someone copying the hard work you have put into your website.
How do you work with marketers and PRs?
Sometimes I am contacted directly, other times I will email marketers or companies PR directly if I feel they are a good fit for my website.
Who do you work with in brand marketing? PRs? SEOs? Anyone else?
I have mainly worked with PR and some media agencies.
What can marketers do better in working with you?
I have had a few marketers contact me asking for unrealistic requests. Not saying I want money, just that I see this as a business, so my time should be compensated in some way. Especially is they are demanding maximum exposure with my brand and expect me to put a lot of effort across my social networks. It’s impossible to write a honest review without actually having used/seen the product in the first place. Also it helps if they take the time to read your blog and actually know what you are about. Nothing worse than being referred to as ‘Hi Blogger’, it takes less than 5 minutes on my website to figure out that my name is Jessica.
What was your blogging highlight of 2014?
Well, my blog has only been existing since 2014, but I have had quite a few achievements. I have been able to meet up with other bloggers locally in Brighton. It is always nice to meet other bloggers to share experiences and talk about similar interests we all have in common. Also I am proud of the following my blog has achieved in such a short amount of time. I am forever grateful to anyone who takes the time to read my blog, let alone comment and interact with me. From this, it has given me a lot of confidence and heightened my knowledge of social media and SEO. Lastly, how can I forget the awesome partnerships I have created with some companies! I have been very lucky to work with brands such as Memebox, W7 Makeup and with House of Fraser to create some awesome content for my readers.
