UK fashionistas’ Top 10s: print, blogs, online

Last week, our European research team published lists of the Top 10 UK fashion blogs and the Top 10 UK fashion magazines by ABC audited circulation. Which made some people pretty happy, while also raising the question: how do these brands fare head-to- head?

Here are the same ten magazines ranked by unique vistors to their en websites in February, courtesy of our partners at Compete:
  1. Marie Claire
  2. Vogue
  3. Cosmopolitan
  4. GQ
  5. Grazia
  6. Glamour
  7. Elle
  8. In Style
  9. Look
  10. Harper’s Bazaar
There are some differences, but the strong brands offline are in general the strong brands online. Sweeping statement, but it also looks like the uniques to some degree reflect the sites’ sociability – vogue.co.uk, for example, seems committed to the social media environment (Twitter, blog et al.), which perhaps helps to make the online version more inclusive than its print sister, though admittedly Condé Nast’s pricing models might also have something to do with it.

A number of the standalone blogs out-unique the websites. By this measure, StyleBubble and Kingdom of Style make the top ten online UK fashion titles, while Catwalk Queen elbows her way ahead of Vogue into second place behind Marie Claire.

So why does Catwalk Queen sit at the foot of our Top 10 UK Fashion Blogs?

The answer lies in the weighting we give to engagement in our blog ranking methodology.  Despite a huge following on Twitter, there’s nary a comment to be seen at Catwalk Queen – but with the traffic on show, the advertisers are unlikely to mind too much.
