Media Spotlight: Scottish Pharmacist
Scottish Pharmacist distributes 3,500 copies to all community, hospital, academic and industry pharmacists as well as pharmacy technicians and pre-registration trainees. It also mails directly to pharmaceutical companies, buyers, wholesalers and industry/professional representation bodies. Scottish Pharmacist’s readership is estimated at 9,000.
Scottish Pharmacist was established as a sister title to Pharmacy in Focus, after Profile Publishing established a partnership with Community Pharmacy Scotland. Its initial editorial aim was to cover issues relevant to community pharmacy but soon broadened its scope to offer a more cross-sector output. It introduced the Scottish Pharmacist Ball and Awards three years ago, offering readers an annual occasion of celebration and also presenting, in 2012, 11 awards.
Scottish Pharmacist has also embraced social networking, particularly Twitter. Editor Laure James has her own freelance account (@LaureJames) and after harnessing the benefits of networking, established @ScotPharm. Creating a network for practitioners and readers to engage with on a regular basis can be challenging, but Laure believes the magazine’s official Twitter account will help to offer a modern, interactive solution.
Working relationship with PRs
The opportunities for readers and PRs are paid for transparencies and editorial space. Regionally geared news items will be considered FOC.
Laure says: “A good feature has to be topical yet not restricted by time-sensitivities, full of relevant quotations, offer insight and colour without being product-led, and must be accompanied by high res photography”.
