Speedy Spotlight: Baby Genie
Baby Genie is featured in this week’s Media Updates. Author Catherine Warrilow talked to Cision about family, stretch mark and pile creams, and PRs’ relationships with bloggers.
Why should people read your blog?
Because it might just make you smile. You may nod in agreement; feel content that you’re not the only one fed up of pants being left on the floor; or go away with a new activity to entertain your children. You may just make a new friend today.
What’s the most important issue in your blogosphere?
Gosh, it could be anything. From how to manage meal-time tantrums, how to juggle a career and children, what to cook for dinner, how to be a good (ish) wife (I say with some jest), to what to wear on the beach this summer. Anything goes but it mainly has a family twist.
What’s your favourite blog and why?
Naked Blogging, because Laura is a very clever lady; Freckles Family, for beautiful things; and Rosie Scribble for a dose of daily life.
How often do you aim to post?
Twice a week.
How do you feel about guest posts?
I’m happy to talk about guest and sponsored posts with brands as long as they are relevant to me (not just families in general) and all relationships must be disclosed within the posts. Beware stretch mark and pile cream PRs – I may not need either of them even though I’ve had babies!
How does a good PR work with you?
Be honest and work with integrity, it goes miles. I love short emails that get straight to the point, no need for press releases. What do you want to achieve? How can we both benefit from making that happen? I’d happily work with a handful of PRs regularly and give them something that their client will be super pleased with rather than just ticking the ‘working with bloggers’ box.
What do PRs do that’s bad?
Send stretch mark and pile cream emails. Seriously, we’re normal people – we’re not paid writers – we’re decent, nice people so just be yourself and don’t be afraid to ask for exactly what you want. Make us work for that review trip or gadget – if you’re giving stuff away, expect us to deliver something worthy of that. Forget the royal baby connections and all the blah stuff; just tell us what the product is and why you’ve approached us specifically.
