Speedy Spotlight: Modern Mummy
Modern Mummy will be featured in this week’s Media Updates. Author Katy Earley spoke to Cision about family, guest posting and building relationships with PRs.
Why should people read your blog?
I like to think it’s a different take on your average lifestyle blog. It’s aimed at people that love the simple things in life – family, food, crafting, photography and being healthy and happy.
The most important issue in your blogosphere is… Family. Having fun with and looking after them.
What’s your favourite blog and why?
Where to begin? I have lots! I think my favourite would have to be A Beautiful Mess – it’s the ultimate craft blog. Its content is varied and updated daily, it is beautifully designed and I just love Elsie + Emma’s photographs!
How often do you aim to post?
I aim to post three times a week but regularly post more frequently than that.
How do you feel about guest posts?
I think guest posting can work really well, but only if the topic is relevant to the content of your blog. I accept guest posters on Modern Mummy when the subject is something I’d like to discuss but don’t feel qualified to. I also like to give my readers fresh content so I regularly post swap with other bloggers. Having guest posts lined up is also a great way to keep your blog active if you’re having some time out. For example, I will line up some guest posts for when I’m on holiday.
How does a good PR work with you?
A good PR makes an effort to get to know you. I love working with those that I have already established a good relationship with; those that have read my blog, know my family and know what things are important to us. Good communication is essential.
What do PRs do that’s bad?
Send out generic emails about products and events that have no relevance whatsoever to your blog and then ignore your requests to remove you from their mailing list.
